Generally, I really like the Epson All-In-One Printers. However, your birthday gift seems to be the one exception that I have seen so far.
Currently, it has 3.5 stars on Amazon from 1,131 reviews. Normally this would be pretty good, except for the fact that 37% of those reviews are either 1 or 2 stars and the common complaint is about ink usage/price. Most of the bad reviewers say (1) the printer guzzles ink and (2) a complete set of cartridges costs $40+. I understand that the printer was a gift and that you cannot return or exchange it now. Just keep the ink issues in mind.
