CHAUNCEY inherited an ASUS AC1750 Wi-Fi Router from an ex-roommate. However, it appears to be end-of-life (EOL). Is it still safe to use?

Generally, once a piece of hardware or software goes EOL it is no longer safe to use.

  1. This is because EOL means no more technical support or updates.

  2. These days, a high percentage of updates are security-related.

Therefore, continuing to use an EOL product means any security issues will NOT be patched. You will be vulnerable.

You have two options . . .

  1. Install up-to-date third-party firmware on that router. DD-WRT is an excellent choice.

  2. Pick up a new router. Wirecutter just released a wi-fi router roundup today.

COREY AND IZABELLA live in an area with lots of over-the-air HD channels (OTA-HD). They want to cancel their cable TV. Which antenna should they buy?

The ClearStream Flex by Antennas Direct looks like a good choice. Amazon has it HERE for $64.95. It rates 3.9 out of 5 stars and free shipping is available.
