OLIVER contacted Comcast/Xfinity about getting Internet service only but they are pushing their Triple Play hard. Is it worth bundling in telephone and TV as well?


If you insist on purchasing Internet only then they will give it to you. With that Triple Play, the pricing is only locked in for 1-2 years and then goes up! You can get Internet only plus subscriptions to Amazon, Hulu, and/or Netflix for less than what that Triple Play will cost you. Just make sure you are getting at least 10Mbps down for high-definition streaming (e.g. 1080p).

CHARLOTTE has a 128GB USB flash drive that gets REALLY HOT, almost too hot to touch. Is this normal?


Flash drives can get pretty warm sometimes, especially with extended use. However, if the drive is too hot to touch then that is NOT normal. I recommend that you replace it ASAP.

LUCAS is trying to help his grandfather with an 8 year old desktop computer. He got it to run Windows 10 but it is a little slow. What can he do to speed it up?


I spoke to LUCAS and his grandfather on the phone. The complication here is that Grandad is stubborn and resistant to change. However between the two of us, I think we got him on board with the following . . .

  • Replace the power supply.

  • Upgrade the hard drive to a solid state drive (i.e. SSD).

  • Back up the data and do a clean install of Windows.

LUCAS will keep me posted on how things are going. They live in upstate Illinois, so a house call is out of the question.
